What are the other indications for Therapeutic BOTOX® XEOMIN®?

BOTOX®, Xeomin® is a neuromodulator that is usually used in a specific dilution for relaxing muscles to reduce pain and discomfort arising from the continuous muscle contraction in those areas. So far the only Health Canada approved neuromodulator for Migraine is BOTOX®. But it can also be used to treat Bruxism/TMJ dysfunction and axillary Hyperhidrosis.

Commonly known by their brand names BOTOX® XEOMIN®. When theses are used for medical reason rather than for aesthetic enhancement it is called a therapeutic Neuromodulator.

  • What is Hyperhidrosis?

    - Hyperhidrosis is a disorder that defines individuals who sweat more than the body would normally need to maintain optimal temperature.  It affects approximately 3% of the population – some 950,000 Canadians – of whom 300,000 have a severe form of the disorder.

  • Where can a person get hyperhidrosis?

    - Underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis)

    - Hands (palmar hyperhidrosis)

    - Feet (plantar hyperhidrosis)

    - Face (facial hyperhidrosis)

    - Generalized hyperhidrosis - from other medical conditions

  • What is Bruxism?

    - Bruxism involves involuntary patterns of clenching, grinding or gnashing of teeth. It's often a condition that adults and children suffer from without knowing it. This can result in severe headache and facial pain and teeth injuries.

  • How can Botox help with this?

    - With Hyperhidrosis Botox reduces the sweat production and resulting in dry underarms for up to 6 months. In the case of Bruxism(Jaw clenching/teeth grinding) the Botox relaxes the muscles of the face and neck and jaw. This results in less pain.

How does it Feel to get the treatment?

It is a very quick and relatively painless procedure. It is a BOTOX® XEOMIN®option. No downtime. May feel a slight pin prick during the injections which is very brief and right after the injection will notice some tiny mosquito bite like bumps of the injection sites, that goes away by 15- 20 minutes. The effects may start as soon as 48 hours after the injections, but the full effects will take up to 2 weeks. The effects last around 3 months. So for Bruxism(teeth grinding ) and TMJ dysfunction related pain and headache it is advised to get a therapeutic BOTOX®, Xeomin® injection every 3 months to avoid worsening of symptoms. On the other hand BOTOX®, Xeomin® for hyperhidrosis of the underarms is typically done every 6 - 7 months as sometimes the effects last longer than that. The therapeutic BOTOX®, Xeomin® is a prescription medication and you will be given a prescription on the day of the consult that you will need to fill and bring in for your appointment. On the other hand if it is something that is not covered by your medical insurance it may be provided from the injector at a cost. This is not injected for patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive. To know more please book a Consultation with our team today.
